Winter is a great time
to prune trees and shrubs. Take this tip from the Master Gardeners.
Make sure your secateurs are sharp and clean. Between cuts, sterilize
them with a spritz of rubbing alcohol from a small spray bottle. This
is especially important to do when cutting diseased branches to prevent
the bacteria or fungus from spreading to the next plant you plan to
prune. Bring your gardening questions to Master Gardeners Lunch Panel
at the Ask the Experts stage, held daily at 12:15. |

The perfumed petals of flowers hold intriguing secrets. Keynote
speaker Dr. Robert Raguso of Cornell University will discuss
the importance of floral scent and its impact on people in a
special evening lecture at 7 p.m. during Scents & Sensibilities
– Plant Day on Friday, March 20. “Offering a keynote
speaker in the early evening is a first for Canada Blooms,”
says Darlene Brown, director, public relations and communications
at Vineland Research and Innovation Centre, Signature Sponsor
at Canada Blooms. “We think this will be of particular
interest to those folks who work during the day and can’t
get to the show in time to see a keynote speaker,” she
adds. Join Dr. Raguso and find out why scientists are
stopping to smell the flowers. |
