An exclusive peek at Canada Blooms the Flower & Garden Festival
March 18 – 22, 2009

Best Show Gardens
And the winners are… Connected: The Canadian Cancer Society Garden designed by Ronald Holbrook & Associates Landscape Architects Inc., which was selected as this year’s Judges Choice Garden. In addition, the City of Toronto’s Now and Then was singled out for Outstanding Interpretation of Show Theme, A Celebration of Canadian Talent and the Bienenstock Natural Playground garnered three awards: Best Overall Creativity, Most Imaginative Garden Design and the Universal Access Award. Visit Canada Blooms for a full list of winners.

Porches and Window Boxes
Many show visitors voted for their favourite celebrity-designed window boxes and front porch planters. Of the six celebrity contestants who participated in the Miracle-Gro Porches and Window Boxes contest, Rex Harrington of The National Ballet of Canada came out with the top design, receiving $1,000 for his favourite charitable cause, Casey House Hospice.
Flowers for Seniors
Many of Toronto’s seniors received a bouquet of springtime at the close of the show. Approximately 600 flowers and plants were distributed to some of the City of Toronto’s long-term care homes. Flowers also went to a number of clients of Cummer Lodge’s meals-on-wheels program and adult day program as well as clients served by the City’s homemakers and nurses services program.

People’s Choice Award Winners
Voted tops in the People’s Choice Award for best garden was Pulse: The Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, a garden designed and built by the Humber College Landscape Technician Program. And, winning a trip for two to discover the gardens of Ireland, compliments of Tourism Ireland and Air Transat, is Jamie Sutton of Peterborough, Ontario, who entered the People’s Garden Award contest. Congratulations Jamie and thank you to Global, HGTV, The National Post, The New Classical 96.3FM, Air Transat and Tourism Ireland.

Another lucky Canada Blooms visitor, Claire des Roches, won a trip for two to Madrid from the Tourist Office of Spain. Click here to read more.
