Canada Blooms Garden 2013Canada Blooms received a number of selections for the 2013 Feature Gardens. Thank you to all the landscape architects and designers who submitted applications. The committee has completed its selections and winning garden builders have been notified.
This year's theme is "The Magic of Spring" and one winning selection was "Magicool" by Genoscape Inc.
"In keeping with this year's theme at Canada Blooms, we are creating the Magicool Garden.
What is Magic about Spring?  The weather gets warmer, it rains a lot, the trees start to leaf and the flowers start to bloom. Genoscape Inc. Logo That whole process in itself is pretty magical!
Within our display, we intend to present all of the literal elements of spring, including different types of water features as well as a sunny area and rainy area.
The rainy area will actually be ‘raining’ into one of our ponds and we will create a real Rainbow within the mist and the rain droplets.  Our rainbow will not be projected but will be created using light and refraction, the same way a real rainbow appears."  Picture is rendering of Genoscapes 2013 Canada Blooms Garden. Garden will be fully accessible to all.

Did you know? The Canada Blooms feature gardens are built in just 6 days. In 2012 along with the floral material, the feature gardens made use of 800 tons of sand, 420 cubic yards of mulch, 30 tractor trailer loads of stone and concrete products.

The Canada Blooms New Plant/Product Showcase is back!
This is one of the highlights of the show. Featuring the newest and most innovative gardening, landscaping and outdoor products available from the Marketplace vendors as well new plants and plant varieties, the New Plant/Product Showcase is among the top destinations of visitors and the media at Canada Blooms.  In the past, products and plants featured in the showcase have been identified and broadcast to viewers of The Marilyn Denis Show, Breakfast Television, Cityline, CTV with Mark Cullen, among others.  The New Plant/Product Showcase is located strategically to give the 200,000+ visitors a quick access to what's hot for the 2013 gardening season.
If you are an exhibitor/partner at Canada Blooms and would like to build excitement for your brand - contact Lorraine Pigeon-Ivanoff, Sponsorship Co-ordinator, to be included in the showcase.

2013 Garden Hall CompetitionThe Garden Club of Toronto has changed the name of its floral & horticultural show to The Toronto Flower Show.  Now Canada Blooms has co-located with The National Home Show and there are so many things to see, it is important that the name reflects who we are and what you can expect.  So in keeping with other international flower shows, we believe The Toronto Flower Show says it all!
We have translated the Canada Blooms theme “The Magic of Spring” into exciting and innovative classes such as: Abracadabra (Youth); Presto and Wizard (Horticulture); Bewitching and Spellbinding (Design); New Beginnings (Photography).
Delight in viewing the stunning floral creations or enter your own design in our standard judged show. This is also your chance to show off your green thumb by entering an Garden Club of Toronto exhibit in the Horticultural Section!
Interested non-professional exhibitors as well as members of Horticultural Societies and Garden Clubs are welcome to enter the open Design and Horticultural classes listed in our schedule.   The Toronto Flower Schedule which includes all 2013 competition rules, classes and awards information is now available click here.

Volunteers at Canada BloomsCanada Blooms would like to recognize Emma Laughlin, one of our great volunteers.
Emma Laughlin has been volunteering at Canada Blooms for the past 11 years. She is an avid gardener and lover of flowers and plants and discovered that while at the festival she can get up close and personal with all kinds of plants and the experts who grow them.
Emma has managed to try just about every position available to volunteers and has found that the bus greeter position is the one she enjoys the most. She has recently taken up the task of organizing other volunteers to ensure that Canada Blooms bus tour visitors get lots of TLC during their time at the festival. "It is fun to meet former volunteer friends and also make new ones," Emma says, "It is also pleasant to meet folks from all over the province and the northern United States who visit the festival. We hope their experience will encourage them to return and bring more friends along. See you in March 2013!"

Would you like to share your passion for gardening and floriculture? It’s easy to volunteer – just complete the online volunteer application or update your file if you are a returning volunteer, or you can download a printable version and mail your form into us. Hearts and Flowers CampaignThe Toronto Botanical Garden is asking for help to reach its goal to raise $250,000 by December 31st!
Every great city has a botanical garden, and the TBG is Toronto's one-of-a-kind. But it needs your help right now. You can help save this precious oasis in the city that brings inspiration, solace, learning and pure joy to so many, and for free. There isn’t another one like it.
The TBG relies on the support of individuals, corporations and foundations. Over 95 per cent of the TBG operating budget is self-generated income through course revenues, membership fees, special events and through the generous support of many donors. Collectively, it educates over 6,000 children and 10,000 adults on important Toronto Botanical Gardenenvironmental and horticultural issues that affect our community.
Time matters, if you donate before December 31st, all contributions will be matched up to $50,000, so your $10 donation will be worth $20. Please Donate Now! Every gift of $10 or more will receive a charitable tax receipt.
If you would like more information on what you can do to help, please visit the Toronto Botanical Garden website.
